Wouldn’t you like to partner with Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary to provide the best care possible for rescued horses that need our help? About 120 of the roughly 1,500 rescued animals that Noah’s Ark cares for are horses, including minis, Mustangs, Clydesdales, Arabians and more. These horses came to our care due to neglect, abuse, abandonment as well as their owners’ inability to take care of them. A few were formerly performing horses that are now too old or could not handle the pressure of performing. Some were even saved from going to slaughter when they came to Noah’s Ark as their forever home. Meet our beloved Bella. Bella arrived at Noah’s Ark, along with another horse named Dallas, in 2016. Unfortunately, Bella was in much worse shape than Dallas. Bella was extremely thin and had lost hair due to fungal growth covering the majority of her body. Bella’s body condition was ranked a 1 (with 10 being ideal) by our veterinarian and her overgrown hooves made it difficult to walk. She was also so malnourished, dehydrated and debilitated that survival wasn’t guaranteed once she arrived at Noah’s Ark. Even in her critical state, her fiery, sassy personality was evident and that gave us hope that she would pull through. For the first week after her rescue, Bella was closely monitored by our veterinarians and animal care staff. She was fed a specialized diet in small amounts every 4 hours to avoid refeeding syndrome (a potentially fatal condition that can lead to heart, kidney and respiratory system failure caused by overwhelming the digestive and metabolic systems that are significantly impaired by prolonged starvation). Bella responded well to her treatment and over the next 10 months slowly returned to a healthy weight. She continues to thrive at Noah’s Ark and is now a healthy, happy horse whose fiery temperament matches her beautiful chestnut red coat. Her most recent owner did love her very much and had actually rescued Bella from a person who had mistreated her. Unfortunately, the rescuer simply couldn’t afford to feed Bella and provide her with the necessary vaccinations and other preventative treatments to return her to good health and to keep her healthy. HOW CAN YOU HELP TO SUPPORT HORSES RESCUED FROM SIMILAR CONDITIONS? It costs about $53 a month to care for each horse, not including medical, staff or facility related costs. With over 120 horses that we currently care for, the costs to feed, vaccinate, deworm as well as farrier services alone add up--$76,000 per year. As a non-profit, we rely on the generosity of supporters like you to be able to provide our equine friends with the best possible care. Every horse that we take in will live at Noah’s Ark’s 250-acre facility for the remainder of their life and our mission is to make their lives the best life possible. We ask you to partner with us to help these precious animals at Noah’s Ark by donating toward our $25,000 goal that will be designated specifically for the care of our equine friends that are fortunate enough to make it to Noah’s Ark. The donations will be used to pay costs to feed, vaccinate, deworm as well as farrier services. We would appreciate it so much if you would donate toward the care of these creatures that cannot take care of themselves so that they can enjoy their remaining years in peace, comfort, and the best health possible. Be sure to designate your donation to ‘Help Rescued Horses Heal and Thrive Fund.’ Donations made in the United States are tax deductible. We could not exist without the kindness and generosity of our supporters like you.
